If you search other blogs, you will find that one of the most popular topics has been dressing for cooler temps. Noah has a good article addressing the normal questions. For my ride this morning, the temps were in the low 40's, and my clothing choices were just about right on. I chose a stocking cap for the head and ears, cycling gloves with Thinsulate winter gloves for the hands and fingers. The torso: short sleeve biking shirt, sweat shirt, and a light jacket. And the bottom half was covered with bike shorts under my windbreaker pants. The toes were covered with the normal socks and all leather shoes.
The only issue this morning revolved around the coffee. By the time I take off on the bike, my coffee has been in my Thermocafe by Thermos for around 30 minutes. Up till today, I have not noticed it cooling off significantly. With that said, by the time I made it to Leawood Park, the coffee was just a smig over luke warm. 3 miles later and it had dropped to warm. When I pulled up to the office, it was actually cold. Now I normally do not like cold coffee, but I have been adding Coffee-mate's Italian Sweet Creame to the coffee. I found that the cold coffee with the creamer was exceptionally good.
Now the actual ride in was enjoyable. I was suprised to find five or six different individuals out on the trails this morning. Still takes some getting use to seeing the reflective strips on their shoes before I see the individuals. I also passed a cyclist coming down College just west of Mission Road. Seems there are others that are just a bit on the crazy side just like me.
Time to put a lid on this post and get back to work.
Till next time.
