I actually enjoyed this mornings commute. I believe this is the first time that I have ridden a significant distance when it is dark and raining. Some observations:
- When it rains, tree branches seem to migrate to the trail.
- Squirrels tend to eat more before it rains. Found an abundance of walnut husks and shells.
- Puddles are deeper than they appear.
- Rain makes an asphalt trail very dark.
This evening, I found that in places that I normally take it easy, I was hammering. I do have a theory, as I was being cautions in the areas that I would normally hammer on (hills, curves) I had extra energy for the straight always and downhills. I also was reminded when you go through as puddle that is up to the bottom bracket (or above, I'm not sure just how deep it was), you can try all you want, but your shoes WILL get soaked.
The other event for the ride home involved tornado sirens. At about 2 mile into my ride, the sirens started to sound. Did I seek shelter, did stop and find cover. No, and I'm not sure what I would do if I needed to take shelter, as there really is not much available on my route. I also got to thinking, "I'm in trouble if it starts to hail".
Well, the weekend is fast approaching, and I'm ready to call it a day. Later.
