Left work just a tick after 5. Sky looked ominous, as if you talk too loud you would be asked to be quite with a down pour of rain. Just after I passed under 435 from Corporate Woods, it started to sprinkle. I'm not concerned as I have full fenders, and don't mind a little shower of rain, it helps keep one cool. Well need less to say, the shower was short lived, less than 1 mile later and it had stopped. I was cruising at a moderate pace thinking to myself. "Self this might be a sub 45 minute ride to the truck".
I normally skip the detour at Roe and ride past the post office, cut through a parking lot and jump back to the trail to get to the South side of 435. This go unhampered, I traverse my way around the trail closed signs and head to where the detour connects back to the trail. And what do I find. The trail is now gone! Yep that's right it has been removed for the flood prevention work being done in the area. Now the dilemma, how do I get from this side of the trail to the other side of the construction work( about 45 feet).
Looks like I will be riding back up the detour and head south to College Blvd. As I get to College, I turn East and find that 1. I have a short hill to climb, and 2 traffic is light at this point. ( I later figure out that I was in between stop light cycles. The hill is really not bad, I mange to get to the top before much traffic becomes present. As I crest the hill I see ahead of me a block and 1/2 line of cars waiting for the traffic light at mission road.
No I normally would just pull up behind the last car and wait my turn. But, as I am not 100% sure where the access path for the Tomahawk trail is, I decide to be cautions and take the sidewalk. As I get to the stop light, I see the trail connector is right on the other side of the road in front of me. A short wait for traffic to clear and it's across the street and back on the trail. only a 1 mile detour to go 45 feet, but who's counting.
The rest of the ride home was uneventful, which really was nice.
Tomorrow they are calling for highs in the 60's and showers. Looks like I will be performing a through test on the fenders.
